An ancient gate system connecting the upper part of Pigna with the castle area, the shrine of Madonna della Costa and with the agriculturally rich San Romolo valley. It is comprised of two entrances, the inner entrance which can be dated to 1321 or in any case the 14th century, and the outer 15th century style entrance.
From here one can quickly descend into piazza del Capitolo or into the new neighbourhood of San Giuseppe, reaching Cisterna square.
