Santuario Madonna della Costa

This large sacred building is one of the symbols of the city. The foundations date from medieval times, with 14th and 15th century elements. The church is run by an active confraternity.

Following the 17th century construction works, the great monumental transformation was completed in 1769-1770, with the new facade and dome designed by the Ligurian architect Domenico Belmonte (1725-1795). The interior is rich in works of art.

The main artworks are in the presbytery, with vault decoration by Giacomo Antonio Boni (1688-1766), the antique painting depicting Our Lady with the Child (around 1380), in the style of Barnaba da Modena and the wooden statues, painted white to imitate marble, by Anton Maria Maragliano (1664-1739).
