Piazza Nota e Palazzo del Commissario

The square is dedicated to Alberto Nota, an important 19th century public official.

Here, we can find the Commissioners Palace, the residence of the Genoese Governor of Western Liguria. The rather austere building was designed by the Ticino-based architect Pietro Antonio Corradi (1613-1683) and until the mid 20th century was also the seat of the Sanremo town council.

The city’s coat of arms, carved in marble by Gio Andrea Manni (1658-1723), is placed above the entrance. The square is closed by one wing of the convent of the Blue nuns, also built according to plans by Corradi (1668).
